Jane Cavalier, Founder and CEO

BrightMark is practically synonymous with founder Jane Cavalier. Cavalier is recognized as one of the country’s leading independent brand consultants. Formerly one of Madison Avenue’s rising stars, Cavalier left to form BrightMark in 2001 in order to create powerful brands independent of advertising campaigns.

Jane has worked alongside Fortune 500 CEOs and their teams to imagine the future they want to create and create the brand that can help drive it. She brings 25+ years of branding, marketing and transformation experience. As BrightMark’s Chief Brand Ecologist, Jane partners with visionary leaders who seek to create positive impact across industries and issues with purpose, creativity, and humanity. She has led large-scale re-branding initiatives for ExxonMobil Worldwide, Samsung, U.S. Navy NAVAIR, and Boston Children’s Hospital. She has helped brands like Citibank, American Express, Sotheby’s and AT&T craft brand advantages in new markets, and brands like Johnson & Johnson protect their brand equity. She is recognized for creating renegade brands including Snapple (Made from the Best Stuff on Earth) and Qwest (Ride the Light) and for helping non-profits like the John Templeton Foundation (Stay Curious) and Pardee RAND Graduate School (Be the Answer) find their emotionally charged brand essence.

Jane’s passion for meaningful brands stems from her experience at the intersection of business, organizational change and the arts. Cavalier and her four siblings grew up in the world of art. After studying economics at Union College, she continued with business studies at NYU and Columbia University while pursuing her advertising career at Doyle Dane Bernbach and Saatchi & Saatchi. After building the creative boutique Buckley DeCerchio Cavalier into what the New York Times called “one of America’s most creative advertising agencies,” she went on to run strategic planning as an EVP at McCann-Erickson Worldwide where she conceived and built The Fourteenth Floor as McCann’s brand consultancy.

Jane taught branding as an adjunct professor at the Yale School of Management and NYU Stern School of Business, was twice recognized by the annual Crain’s 40 under 40 listing. She currently sits on the boards of the Nemours Children’s Health System, Pardee RAND Graduate School and American Composers Orchestra. Married to her high school sweetheart, Jane has three grown children and resides in Weston, CT where she enjoys hiking, sailing on Long Island Sound and raising chickens.
